Sail, surf and sun along 50 miles of beach communities

Wilmington is bordered by the beautiful Cape Fear and North Carolina’s scenic Intracoastal Waterway, which makes the area an outdoor paradise. Explore nearby Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach and the more than 25 marinas located along the Intracoastal Waterway and the Cape Fear River. Nearly 50 public golf courses are only a chip shot away. Check out the 84,000-square-foot N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher or visit the Battleship North Carolina.
Also close at hand is the popular Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area – famous for its more than 120 golf courses, theme parks, miles and miles of “grand strand” and extensive dining and dancing venues.

University of North Carolina-Wilmington offers 73 bachelor’s degree programs and 32 graduate programs, which include a Ph.D. in marine biology, and an Ed.D. in educational leadership. For the tenth year, UNCW is among the top 10 public master’s universities in the South by U.S. News & World Report. The 2008 ranking was sixth. Among both public and private institutions in the South, UNCW is 14th out of 119 institutions.

Wilmington’s three larger hospitals-New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Cape Fear Hospital and Pender Memorial Hospital offer advanced care. The New Hanover Health Network includes 450 practicing physicians and some of the most technologically progressive facilities and equipment in the state. For general medical services and emergency treatment, residents in Brunswick County can choose between two hospitals­-Brunswick Community Hospital and Dosher Memorial Hospital.

The Wilson Center boasts a grand performance hall­ designed with three floors that wrap the stage, creating excellent views for every guest. The height and drama of the space provoke a reverent and energizing feel. Whether seated in the Orchestra, Grand Tier, or Balcony, guests enjoy an intimate setting, and the feeling of being part of the show.

Screen Gems Studios is a 50-acre, full-service studio lot offering 10 stages with 150,000 sq. ft. of column-free shooting space. Production support includes multiple mills, storage, wardrobe space, special effects water facilities, production-ready office suites and on-site lighting, electric and grip.
